The low levels of transparency and accountability prevalent in the industry are being fed by extremely low awareness of the oil & gas (O&G) sector and its governance in Malaysia. Revenue transparency, accountability, and good governance are basic expectations that Malaysians should have of their government and the corporations in the O&G sector.
REFSA’s goal is convince Malaysia to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) which would commit the O&G industry and the government to considerably higher standards of transparency and accountability than currently exist.
